Introduction

Bindiganavile is a village located in Nagamangala Taluk, Mandya District, Karnataka. It has a temple of Sri Chenna Keshava, Sri Soumya Nayaki and Sri Garuda. This website contains information about the temple and its activities.

Village

Bindiganavile is a small village located in Nagamangala Taluk of Mandya District in the southern Indian state of Karnataka. It is around 130 kms from Bangalore, 90 kms from Mysore, 90 kms from Tumkur and 80 kms from Hassan. It is well connected to these and other cities through road. The nearest major railway station is 20kms away at Shravanbelogola.

The area and its temples have a long history and the village is also referred to as Mayurapuri. Stone inscriptions dating back to 10th century have been found around the area. There are multiple Hindu temples and Jain places within 20 kms of the village including the famous Gommateshwara of Shravanbelagola.

Currently there are around 500 houses in Bindiganavile with a population of around 5000 people. It has facilities including school and pre-university college, bank, hospital, post office, police station etc. The village has many old temples including the Sri Chenna Keshava temple.

Temple

The Sri Soumya Nayaki Kantha Sri Chenna Keshava Garuda Temple is a Hoysala era temple with over a thousand year history. It has idols of Sri Chenna Keshava, Sri Soumya Nayaki ammanavru, Sri Garuda Murthi and Sri Anjaneya Murthi within the primary structure. Around this there are many other idols including Alwars, Sri Ramanujacharya etc. There is also a related Anjaneya temple within a walking distance of this temple. The Garuda devaru within the temple is also known as Vainatheya swami. The temple is owned by the Government Muzarai Department. In addition Bindiganavile Shri Vainatheya Bhaktha Mandali, Bangalore is involved in the upkeep of the temple.

Temple Activities

The temple conducts an annual Bramha Rathotsava on Pushya nakshatra of Magha Masa. It is part of a ten day programme. Apart from this the temple has activities year round.
